Paper-free December

No, this isn't about holidays with electronics or sans wrapping paper. No, it refers to an amazing statistic that occurred to me earlier this week:

For the first time in 4 years, I have a December with no seminar papers to write.

For the first time in 8 years, I have a December with no final papers, no exams, no projects to be completed.

For the first time in 20 years I have a December which has neither the end of semester/quarter paper scramble nor the employee benefits related holiday work-a-thon.

For the first time in as many years, I have a December in which I actually have time to:
- make a Christmas wish list
- go holiday shopping (!)
- decorate my home for the holidays
- send holiday cards to friends and family
- do the projects in the house I've put off all semester
- enjoy holiday related outings or visits with friends

Wow! How cool is that? I have time to notice the holidays before they are over! Yippee!

so how am I planning to use all this holiday available time? Ripping out and redoing the kitchen, of course. :)

No really - that is on the schedule next week, but so is finishing moving in (i.e., putting the basement area - my office - in order to actually work, and lots (and lots) of reading, note-taking, and note posting in preparation for mid-February comprehensive exams. I'll be posting more on those exams in this space soon. And if you want to know what I'm up to for the next few weeks, stay tuned, cuz all my notes will end up here.

Happy Holidays....

Crazy, but lucky that you're done before the holidays. My final class stuff for my own classes is due tomorrow, but I've got so much work left on it. I don't get to leave until late next week, as I still have to do grading for my students.

Good luck on the mid-Feb comps. Mine are next fall, and I'm already a bit nervous.
