peace fair, please

Yesterday was a beautiful day; sunshine, balmy breezes and an event that moved me to once again to tell people they should believe in Mother Earth, the esoteric, and my unshakeable belief that we are all connected in ways that we choose to label as "mystic" or that we just plain ignore. Interestingly enough, Einstein knew that we were all connected, hence quantum theory and he had contemporaries that maintained this belief as well; and yet for all of the ways in which we idolize this great mind, most people refuse to believe that we are born with gifts that validate this connection. Some label it as magic, others as evil, but the truth is that the ability to predict upcoming events and future happening has more to do with our innate human connection than anything mystical. The mysticism lies in the fact that many people are so intent on denying the aforementioned connection, that they feel compelled to name it and categorize as outside of themselves.
The unknown can be frightening. However, a visit to the Onondaga Lake Park yesterday could have quelled some of those unreasonable fears.

On a lark I decided to call my friend C and see what she was up to on such a glorious day. She said "T and I are going to the Peace Fair, and M volunteers her time at the school on the rez, so she will be working there". Terrific! This event was held at the Onondaga Lake Park. It's amazing what is going on in this town if you know the right people.

The Peace Fair was such a wonderful experience; singers, vendors of all sorts, healers, and (my personal favorite) storytellers. This amazing event was poorly attended, but beautiful nonetheless. Listening to the acoustic guitar while listenening to MC tell the story of The Peacemaker was soothing and thoughtful; MC herself was almost moved to tears in her telling of it. The story itself was an hour long, and like most stories of creation and natural phenomena, explained many of the natural forces such as the seasons and the population of Mother Earth, as well as the need for peace and understanding within our race; the human race. At the end of her story, we followed her to a tent in which we were privileged to see her works of art; visual rhetoric that almost moved me to tears. If actions do indeed speak louder than words, these portraits are screaming at the top of their pseudo lungs.

So the next time someone tries to tell you that tarot cards, palmistry, runes, or any other sort of divination is just hokey superstition, a hoax, or just plain evil, tell them to go read some quantum theory, open their minds, or run and find the nearest Peace Fair. Oh...and of course you should advise them to relax, and tell them I would be happy to read their tarot cards for them if they like!
