He's Really My Son...
If I had a son, this is what he would be doing (lol)...This young man is amazing! I can't wait to see him in the ring when he gets older. Of course, there is the concern that he might be too young to work out so hard, but the way that he throws his punches is better than some pro's I've seen!
His name is Pretty Boy Bam Bam, and he is 5 years old.

C'mon Kayne
Give me a break. All this whining about not winning, as if you were the only disappointed artist in the audience. And could you please leave the race card for more important things than your personal career advancement. Maybe folks are just not feelin you like they used to. Okay, so your joint is number one...you and how many other artists? Besides, this isn't the Billboard awards, where the only criteria for winning is record sales.
Now you say that MTV needs to give a Black man a break. Huh???? Have you checked to see who beat you, Kayne?
You lost to Justin (2 times), Rhianna (who happens to be BLACK, or is she not included because she's from the Caribbean and/or a woman?), and Gnarls Barkley (also a person/ group of color)!
Apparently you became a "College Dropout" before you learned that it's not a good idea to use the race card to validate your dillusions of grandeur. And now it's time for your "Graduation"? Maybe you should stop throwing tantrums just because you are a legend in your on mind, and show some respect for the artists that worked just as hard as you did and are (obviously) more well liked.
Personally, I like J.T., and I'm glad he whipped your ass. Let's see if you're man enough to follow through on your threat never to return to MTV. Something tells me the world of music will go on quite nicely without you.

Stomping The Yard?
I know that I have used this space for all things academic, personal, and otherwise, but now I am going to add some advice. Parents-teach your children to be obedient! I raised 3 daughters, all of whom have impeccable manners (and not, as you might think, of my own estimation), and have almost always done what they were told. In addition to making children feel safe, it actually keeps them safe.
My neighbors, on the other hand, allow their 2 year old to run the house, up to and including what time she wants to go to bed at night. To say that this is an annoyance is an understatement-even when you live in a shared space no one should have to put up with ridiculous noise levels at unreasonable times of the night/day. Now, the lesson: In case you were thinking that there is no moral to this story, watch this...
There but for the grace of God goes my neighbor's child...Posted by dvaldesd at 05:15 PM | Comments (2)

Speculation is the key word
Tonight's assignment is deceptively simple: write a speculative paper about how your "authorial identity". Sounds easy, right? Well, don't believe the hype. Despite the simple phrasing of the assignment, it's not easy to think or look back on everything you've written and then evaluate it. Off the top of my head, I can say with some very real certainty that I want to think that I am an activist; but in order to do that, I have to be a historian; and in order to that, I have to be a passive vessel that consumes the information my instructors demand that I authentically become familiar with and own. Like I said- not that easy a task. Especially when I consider that the most of the things I have read have little to do with my scholarly interests. See, I want to make the case for Latino/a rhetoric to be taken seriously. I want to draw the connection (like Villanueva does) between us and the ancient Greeks. I want to see Latino/a writers all over the place. And, I want to learn about it while I'm still in grad school. How many opportunities have I had to do this? Zip, zero, nada-because none the things I read, (importance to the field notwithstanding) apply to my vested interest. So what's a Latina to do? S-P-E-C-U-L-A-T-E on what I want to be when I leave the academy. For me the real question is not what I want to be, but how I can get there and be as informed as possible. Anyone want to speculate on that?
This is for those of you that are interested in the perils of authorship
