WRT 307: Proposal Assignment

Background
During the last week of class, we discussed case statements as a genre of funding requests and reviewed several sample statements. As previously mentioned, it is unlikely that you will ever have to write an actual case statement. That said, thinking through case statements and writing a draft of one are useful activities to help you consider issues such as audience, persuasion, organization, and format. As you begin to write your proposal for this assignment, consider the types of decision you made in drafting your case statement.

Assignment
Today in class we covered some of the basic issues involved in writing a proposal. (You also received a handout on proposal writing.) The goal of this assignment is to produce an actual proposal specific to your workplace, including any necessary additional documents, such as memos, cover letters, summaries, appendices, and bibliographies.

In order to begin this assignment, you will need to
1. Decide if you are writing an internal or external proposal
2. Decide what specifically you are proposing (to do)
3. Decide who you are making/writing a proposal to
4. Decide on your specific workplace identity

The final version of the proposal should include many of the elements from today’s discussion.

Requirements
• A memo or cover letter, as appropriate
• A written proposal (hardcopy)
• A summary of 1-4 above, on a separate sheet

Deadlines
I will meet with you individually next week to discuss your progress
Final proposal and any accompanying documents are due April 1st
